What us Intellectual property ?
As per World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Intellectual property (IP) refers to the creations of the mind, such as inventions; literary and artistic works; designs; and symbols, names and images used in commerce.

What are the types of Intellectual property ?
Types of IP includes mainly
  1. Patent
  2. Copyright
  3. Trademark
  4. Industrial Design
  5. Geographical Indication

What is Patent ?
In the case of Patent, the government grants you exclusive rights to use that invention, for a limited period of time, in turn of making the invention known to the public.

Patentability criteria
•A new product or process involving an inventive step and capable of industrial application[Sec 2(1)(j)]
  • New (Novelty) : New, unknown, not published, undisclosed, not in public domain, not discussed, not used, not sold
  • Inventive step/(non obviousness): Involves technical advance as compared to existing knowledge or having economic significance or both which makes it not obvious to the person skilled in the art.
  • Industrial Application: Is capable of being made or used in any kind of industry.
 
What is Copyright ?
Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship as soon as an author fixes the work in a tangible form of expression.

Copyright is a legal term describing rights given to creators for their literary and artistic works

Copyright covers,
•Literary works such as novels, poems, plays
•Reference works, newspapers
•Films, musical compositions, and choreography
•Artistic works such as paintings, drawings, photographs
•Architecture
•Advertisements, maps and technical drawings
•Computer programs (algorithm)
•Databases

IPR awareness Initiative by Government 
A National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM) under the initiative of the Government's "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav", has been launched by, DPIIT. The pan-India ambitious mission aims to provide awareness on intellectual property and its rights to 1 million students.
